Re: GPZ1000RX long shot!!! Not yet Indie, I took the Triumph for it's MOT this morning and it passed with only 1 advisory which I expected anyway, my front tyre is close to the legal limit with only about 200 miles left in it, so that's me off the road until Wednesday and I take it in to get it changed ... And I've found a real gem of a spot to do it!! BT021's, wheel off, fitted, balanced, wheel on £82.25!!! Including the VAT. The last back I got, (about 400 miles ago), cost me £135 fully balanced and fitted. The other spot I've found, £117.50. Also, I managed to get back from the MOT literally 5 minutes before the heavens opened up so I didn't get wet. I've been to see a bloke about the carbs, full strip down, rebuild & check for £25, so they're going on on Tuesday for that. So all in all I've had a good day ![]()

Re: GPZ1000RX long shot!!! Some good deals about if you're prepared to look, I use C&S in middlesborough. Last time I took the firestorm in for a pair of BT-021's I paid £200, ride in ride out. Another garage in Stockton wanted £230 ! Just used them again for a new rear Metzeler for the SP and it was only £94 fitted.

Re: GPZ1000RX long shot!!! I was paying about £230 for a pair Mike. I'm finding if I wander over to North Yorkshire a lot of spots out towards York are a lot cheaper than some of the places closer to home. What's the Metzeler's like then? I've read they're a real up and coming tyre but I'm sticking to the Bridgestone 021's for the Triumph coz no matter what the weather they just grip & grip & grip. I'm goinna have to have a good shop about for the GPZ while it's on the 16" wheels as I'm not keen on the 045's even though they're Bridgestones. Someone reccomended the Metzeler's for the RX.

Re: GPZ1000RX long shot!!! Well today has been crap with the RX. Reborn popped over to give me a hand. I'd drained off the tank into a demijohn and we hummed and ahhhed if there was water in the petrol due to a very slightly blue haze at the top of the petrol. But that could have been the light. Here's a vid of the bike running as it was with 90% choke on. You can see what happens as soon as I even twitch the throttle: So we set about stripping down the carbs and rebuilding them. The amount of crap in the carbs was amazing and it too us about 4 hours to clean them. Now the bike will run and it'll rev but it won't tick over ![]() As I walked into the house, ny attention turned to my Triumph which looked as thought the back tyre was going down! We discovered that the back tyre does indeed have a puncture! So that bike is off the road as well until I get the front tyre done on Wednesday and the back puncture repaired. Sometimes there are days I wish I hadn't bothered getting out of bed! Still, the stir fry we had for tea was nice, (though it gave me hiccups), and the raspberry cake was tasty.

Re: GPZ1000RX long shot!!! Try this Andy http://www.ronniesmailorder.com/fich...ion_detail.asp I think they are similar to your carbs. We cleaned out the main jets so it was running on higher revs but I think the pilot jets also need cleaning to get it to run on lower revs. Only being an amateur (and brought up on good old Amals) we need a more experienced persons take on things. Oh and I think I got so neurotic that I thought my bike was starting to play up when it stalled at the end of your road and if the back end twitched I was praying I didn't have a puncture! Bloody bikes! Who'd have em! ![]()

Re: GPZ1000RX long shot!!! Hi there... Funny thunderlad has a gpx which does similar things.. Skodaphil and I went to look at it and concluded it was sucking air in coz carbs were not seated properly, and hence not sealing on rubbers... On the basis of that I popped over to some kwaka forums and found multiple threads about similar issues. One thing that is mentioned over and over again is the rubbers, both the ones between the engine and carbs, and the ones on the air box becoming hard from age. Then coz they are hard they don't seal and they allow air to leak in, which fooks up the carburation. Appparently the rubbers can be softened up again, at least temporarily by removing them and massaging washing up liquid into them. Just make sure they are clean before refitting.

Re: GPZ1000RX long shot!!! Interesting suggestion jonnywombat but the rubbers are fine bud, they're a sod to get fitted properly on the airbox side but other than that they're reasonably soft and pilable. I think it's crud in the carbs causing the problem. I tried to take out the pilot jets but they wouldn't budge, in fact I bend a screwdriver on them. We did the main jets which were caked up with all sorts of crap and I don't think the idle jets are clear. I have a feeling the same could be said for the start up jets. In other words the carbs are just full of crap. I'm taking them off and to a local dyno place to a guy that says he can clean them up for £25. The thing is, these carbs have perfectly working floats so the bike isn't flooding and I think, (or hope), the miss is due to crud blocking the jets so it's fuel starvation. It's sods law that both my bikes go down on a bank holiday weekend! Still, by this time next week I should have a better idea what the score is. I'd really like to be able to do the whole thing myself, but I'm gonna need professional help on this one, all I've got to lose is £25 after all and I've already put in £1,500 so I have to keep going.
