Silicon or paste?

I'm fitting a new exhaust to my bike this week (pics will follow when it's done) and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on joint sealing.

Now, I've not fitted a new exhaust before but I've patched a few in my time with exhaust paste ~(gun gum) but I've been told that high temp silicon is the stuff to use on joints on a new stainless system.

Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Silicon or paste?

I fitted a new Scorpion system last year to my firestorm, and it didnt need (and didn't recommend using) any jointing paste at all, once the clamps were nipped up it was gas-tight. Later in the year when I had a system hand made, the builder made slip joints, these were the same although he did say if it leaked where the silencers bolted on, use some jointing paste.

Re: Silicon or paste?

Cheers guys. I've just looked again at the system and the headers seem to be welded in one piece to the collector box (don't know why I thought it wasn't), so I've only really got two joints to contend with; the link pipe and silencer. Should be alreet.

Re: Silicon or paste?

Fitted it today and used clear silicon to seal the joints on the link pipe. Seems to be holding up fine. Just in case anyone was wondering.....
