exhaust baffle tube removal. (it's stuck!) Hi all, I'm guessing/hoping some of you have experienced this before. My bike ('91 Honda H100S) isn't running quite as well as I think it could and want to remove the baffle to tube from the exhaust to clean and unblock it. But it is wedged in tight, and not budging. I've tried removing it with mole grips when cold and hot (after 30min ride) and still no joy? Is it new backpipe time, or are their other options? Many thanks in advane, any help greatly appreciated.

Re: exhaust baffle tube removal. (it's stuck!) Hello Scorpian, Is the exhaust a chrome type that runs level with the swing arm? There should be a screw underneath or a clip inside holding the baffle in place (If my memory serves me right). A couple more posts and you can post a picture of it ![]()

Re: exhaust baffle tube removal. (it's stuck!) Hi rerb. yes its the chrome type. not sure about the swing arm, it just runs horizontal. There is a screw underneath yes, which i removed yesterday before taking it out for a run, and still couldn't get the blighter free upon my return.

Re: exhaust baffle tube removal. (it's stuck!) or take the complete exhaust of the bike, hang it up vertical, wedge a potato in one end then fill from the other end with something like caustic soda leave for a day then flush it out, thats what i used to do when i was 16 with my two strokes

Re: exhaust baffle tube removal. (it's stuck!) Yep that was the old way but you may have problems getting hold of any caustic soda these as it's nasty stuff. It may be worth removing the silencer to get a better look, just be careful with studs in the head as they are tiny and tend to strip if you look at them. If the silencer splits from the downpipe it may be better to try and leave the downpipe connected to the bike. Edit: Indie and myself tend to agree on these things

Re: exhaust baffle tube removal. (it's stuck!) My mate lost his eyebrows doing this... when it had not gone off he looked down the exhaust to see what was going on...just as a flaming rag was propelled out at great velocity.. It was just like something out of a cartoon...I laughed for days ![]()

Re: exhaust baffle tube removal. (it's stuck!) you dont need to be a yoof do do that, it was standard practice at work to build bazookas out of cardboard tubes wrapped in metal tape firing big balls of gaffer tape at each other!
