Brake light........

Morning everyone.

Is there anyway that I can make my brake light come on earlier when I apply my rear brake? At the moment the brake light only comes on when I press the rear brake lever hard, almost to the point where it can travel no further.

The front brake is fine, the light comes on as soon as the brakes are applied just like it should do.

Is there a way of making the rear brake light come on earlier?

Cheers
Kenny

Re: Brake light........

Most rear brake light switches have a knurled nut on them which alters the height/brake light timing. Moving the switch up will make it come on earlier.

Re: Brake light........

Excellent, thanks Mike. I'm a novice to all of this, is the nut in close proximity to the rear brake lever?

Cheers

Re: Brake light........

it should be almost touching the lever, when you adjust that knurled nut it will bring the prox switch closer to the lever making it come on earlier

No, the front is usually a little plunger type of switch. If it's slow to come on, the mechanism may be gummed up a little. A quick squirt of WD40 usually does the trick.

Another thing worth mentioning, if you are thinking of replacing the switches and your brakes are the hydraulic type, you can fit a banjo bolt brake light

These are operated by the fluid pressure in the brakes themselves, and are handy if you ever fit rearsets that have nowhere for the switch to attach to.
