Clutch issue :S

Hey guys. I noticed while doing some chain maintenance t'other day, while in any gear with the clutch pulled in as far as it goes - the back wheel still moves I had her up on main stand so back wheel off the ground and noticed it was spinning, so i figured the clutch cable must have gone a bit slack. But I spent an hour () trying to adjust it with no luck so she has gone back to how I started now. But alas, the back wheel still spins. And it spins faster depending on which gear im in etc.... I take it this shouldnt be happening Any hints? She is going in for a service in 9 days but im worried she wont make it that long

Re: Clutch issue :S

the only thing i can suggest is don't put the bike in gear when the back wheels off the ground... my cat does this as well . its never caused any problems when the wheel is in contact with tarmac

Yes it's normal. Stick your boot toe against the middle of the tread and it should stop. Even when the clutch plates are apart the fluid (oil) betwen them can transmit movement and thereby spin the back wheel.

Re: Clutch issue :S

Seriously? My mechanic told me to be careful or it'd burn out the clutch before it got to him! I went to see him today as I was concerned (and also to book my 7.5k mile service. It's all right having services every 2.5k miles but that's only a month or two for me ). Doh.

Re: Clutch issue :S

I would have thought it would be more serious if it did not move as that would mean less oil getting to it.

If the wheel didn't turn I would be worried the back brake was binding or the bearings were shot. Don't see how you are going to burn out the clutch
And 2.5k between services Does your handbook recommend that interval? Or is it just the garages rcommendation?

Re: Clutch issue :S

That's the handbooks recommendation :/ but I can't see me keeping that up much longer! I had always figured since the clutch was in, the gears shouldnt be engaged at all - I guess this means I have more to learn!

Like the others said, it's normal. It'll probably even do it in neutral when the motor's running, Reborn got the reason for it bang on.

It spins in netural too.

It did on the rally, and it does on my CG.

The rally is a CVT and CG was in neatrel.
