Click Click----nothing

I've only had the Suzuki DR125 for about a month, and every time I've started it, there's been a whirring noise just before it started, which I thought was normal? Anyway, the last couple of days, it's made a clicking noise, then a slow turn over before starting. Today, it just made a clicking noise and nothing else. I put the battery on charge when I got home, and it reached full charge in 10 minutes, so I'm assuming both the battery and alternator are fine? Is it the starter motor that's buggered, or is there another possibility. Any advice gratefully received, cheers, Carl.

(I take it I don't have to remind anyone that I am a complete mechanical numpty.)

Re: Click Click----nothing

sounds more like battery to me, did your charger register the battery as flat or charged? cause if it were charged then no need to charge (if you see what i mean) but if the battery on the way out then maybe although the charger says ok it'll go flat again in a few days. does the bike start now the battery is charged? the slow turning over and the clicking(starter solenoid btw) usually mean duff battery. you will need to check that the bike is charging properly should charge at just over 12v.

i've got corner speed, it's control i struggle with!

from one numpty to another taking a charge and holding it are two different issues, however sounds like yer battery is probably ok. don't think starter motors are prone to probs on bikes in general, but wiring to it could be gonna presume the clicking is the bike's equivalent of a car's starter motor solonoid (a bike starter motor solonoid )
could still be a dodgy battery tho

Nope, still just clicks. The charger went off 'charge' and onto 'maintain' after 10 minutes, so I'm assuming the battery was fully charged. I'll try hitting the solenoid with a hammer tomorrow. I used to have a Volvo 340 which responded to a whack!

Re: Click Click----nothing

if yer short of kit for testing yer battery output (remember starter takes loadsa juice) you can get an idea by sticking yer lights on full beam for a few minutes & see if they dim noticeably

If I have no joy with the hammer it looks like I may have to 'av it in for a professional look over.

Re: Click Click----nothing

Stooooopid question but is it 6V or 12V? which setting is your charger on? if it is 12V, can you get jump leads from your cage onto it?

Re: Click Click----nothing

another easy check, connect charger to battery whilst fitted to bike and try to start whilst charger on/connected, if spins over then battery at fault. if still the same suspect starter motor/solenoid.
