Chatroom

After a great deal of research I have decided to delay the implementation of the chatroom untill the forum is on its feet and running properly. The reason for this is that chatrooms can sometimes have an adverse effect on forums as more time is spent in them than posting on the boards - sorry to all who were expecting one soon.

It is a good site but its in its infancy, it needs to get established before folk start taking their banter into chatroom.
Personally, I think Spree is doing the right thing, been there done that got the t shirt etc, tho Spree, maybe a shoutbox wouldnt go amiss for those that miss the chatroom?

Thats the reason I'm holding the chatroom back Gix. The site does need to get on its feet for certain. The problem with chatrooms is that they hold the forum back because people tend to sit in them for hours. If they are doing that then they arent posting in the forums, which is what the search engines read and hence give the site the chance of attracting new members.

The chatroom will be installed - but not until the forums have a good number of members that already post in the forums. Besides there are loads of ways of chatting - MSN Messenger, Yahoo messenger and IRC to name a few.

I can see where yer trying to get to BUT can't say I follow yer logic, spree.
there's little, if any, chatroom tittle tattle that would otherwise be posted on the forum - and if there was, you'd delete it anyway.
Personally, I see a chatroom as an additional facility, an extra attraction to the site for new & existing members - more likely to enhance membership numbers & posts.

The logic is purely down to optimisation for the site deano thats all. I do realise that a handful of members want one but at the moment, my priority is to get this site up and running with a healthy number of regular posting members mate. There is also still a lot of other work to be done before I'm happy with the site and its response with the search engines.

The other thing is that I have started a new job so my free time is much less now than it was so I have to prioritise on what I need to do to the site, also neither Rerb or myself have any experience with this forum software, so its a big learning curve for us and things are being implemented more slowly than before as we need to be sure what we do is right first time so we don't bugger things up for everyone.

I have paid for the chatroom software so it WILL be put into place, but not just yet. I hope this answers all your questions

I'm with you Spree. I think the forum needs to be established as a Biker forum first and foremost to attract new members. Most people interested in biking would hopefully search for this site in the hope of having conversations about bikes.

Otherwise there is a danger of this site being more about drivel than bikes which is not fair on you or Rerb, given the effort you put in.
