Platonic Friendships between men and women?

Do they work? Or do most people think they're having an affair really? According to my dear old mother they're not normal or possible. She says women should have women friends and men have men friends. What do you lot reckon?

i know a few girlies who i can call "mate" it doesnt mean im trying to get(or would even want to) the leg over..but wifie can be suspicious at times, dont ask me why,thats just the way she is.

You know that dear old mother has always been suspicious of male/female relationships. I think it's perfectly normal to have blokes as friends, I did at school and have done most of my life.... the majority of the time they have the same interests as me. I like to go out and talk about bikes, cars, motor racing etc.... I find men easier to get on with.

The few times I have been out with a group of women I have got fed up after a couple of hours of listening to them moan about their partners and talk about their kids. I look after kids all day, if I go out with adults like to talk about something else.

Being a biker means that most of the time you are going to be around men, doesn't mean you want to get them into bed. I find it all a bit narrow minded but some people are just like that.

my oldest and best friend is a girl, nothing has ever happened between us, although a lot of people dont believe that, her parents and most of her friends always believed that we would get together, we are still very close, even though we are both with partners and both of us have kids, even after i moved away for work reasons, it can happen i think its just rare

I have quite a few female friends who i go out with without my partner and it has never caused a problem,I dont understand why people seem to think if you have a friend who is off the oppisite sex that there must be something going on and you cant just be friends
