Re: 3rd world operating system

Ermmm my view on Ubuntu.

It's getting better, loads better than the older distro's and once set up it's nearly as user friendly as windows. But it's not ready for the ordinary user at the moment (My view sorry Jonny). You still need quite a bit of command line knowledge to set the thing up (new devices etc).

On the up side it's free and constantly being updated, probably more so than the current Windows operating systems. It's also less likely to be hit with viruses, malware which is the bane of windows users in this day and age.

My advise if you are going to take the plunge and try Ubuntu is make sure you know someone with a good understanding of it who is willing to help you lots.

I have little to no command line knowledge, I have had to use the command line but in EVERY case it has be a cut and paste from the Ubuntu Forums..

However as you hinted at getting some devices to work properly can be a pain...

Like I said in the beginning my aim is not to argue with OS is best.. each to there own, horses for courses and all that jazz; but I just wanted to showcase my 3rd world OS desktop..

and maybe point out the small footprint size for all those visual effects

Re: 3rd world operating system

Mebbe Spree's right, there are enough of us on here with some (I place myself in that bracket) IT knowledge to set up a Comp forum.

Re: 3rd world operating system

I think it would be great if a PC help section was added to the forum.. I would be willing to help out when I can

And my rates are quite reasonable
