| need advice hello, need some advice pls... sitting my practical test in couple of days.. and well a foolishly went out on my bike. police stopped me and have done me for driving the bike without correct category of license. i have had a full drivers license for approx 20 years. done my cbt, theory test and direct access. what is the likely outcome from the pf? also, there seems to be some confusion/grey area regarding new riders. the 6 point 2 year rule seems to imply it is from you're FIRST test taken. since i took my driving test many years ago does the 6 point/new driver rule apply? Thanks in advance.. |

| Re: need advice Not sure what is likely to happen re incorrect license but I do know that once you have passed your bike test the 2 year 6 point rule applies. ![]() My source was a friend of a friend who works for the DVLA comms team in Swansea. )My understanding is the 6 point rule is for new licence holders only. Hope I'm right but the bobby didn't say anything when he stopped me 2 weeks ago. Would have thought he would though? | |

The PDF (Link below) from the DVLA quotes "If you get six points within two years of passing your first qualifying test, your licence will be revoked and you will need to re-sit the test" www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/publications/dvltoday_32.pdf I followed the link in the PDF and checked the acctual legislation and in section 1 'Probationary period for newly qualified drivers' point 2 states... 'For the purposes of this Act, a person becomes a qualified driver on the first occasion on which he passes' Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act 1995 (c. 13) So licence holders of 2 years or more who then pass their bike test does not have to worry about the 6 point rule for new drivers. I hope this makes up for my mis information ![]() | |
