Re: Advice please Hiya Aspe cheers for that I had two lessons yesterday and the confidence is coming now I don't feel such a fa**y anymore it was mention of the test that shook me thought the school were just filling their block bookings (I'm nowhere near test ready in my opinion but I feel a lot more relaxed now on the bike and can actually get round a sweeping bend faster than 20mph lol it's finally coming together. I'll keep you all informed and many thanks for all your comments

Re: Advice please COUNTER-STEERING... That's when it all clicks into place.... When does it get to the point where you can REALLY ride??? Your first track day. Your bike will sound like it's never done before, you will get your knee down by mistake, you WILL GRIN. I ride an MV F4 750 and I love it. I ride mostly on my own (my choice) and do track days on my CBR400 on my own - with no-one to push me I find I relax and go quicker because you're only thinking about your lines, not your speed. I did my first track day 6 weeks after passing my test, it really made the difference. I've got a motocross track in my back garden and a dirt bike, if you're ever near Manchester/Rochdale please come and have a go. Riding a bike on dirt really enhances your skills. When your back end goes adrift a bit on the road you won't panick and drop it. That's a serious offer, take me up on it yeah? XGillyX

And it's amazing how being tense affects you. I once went out in a strong wind and driving rain well into my lessons not long before my test...I was really rattled by the weather and my riding went up the creek. Instuctor said he could see me visibley tense up from where he was riding behind and the bike handled like crap. Only thing is, telling yourself to relax doesn't always have the desired effect. It comes back (I think) to practice practice practice. Mr LC bought me a 125 for £300 to use as often as possible and it was the best thing he ever did. ![]() | |

Re: Advice please Hiya Gilly Thanks for the message cheers for the invite if I'm ever down that way I'll let you know and call in it must be great having a track in ya back garden I thought about doing some dirt riding thought it would be great fun, I'm getting some confidence now and I know about counter steering at last it saved my a*se when I had a 125 on hire and I was heading for the kerb scared the sh*t outta me at the time think that was when I was gonna pack in but for years my partners tried to explain about counter steering and finally it's sank in I try it out now when I get outta site of the instructor which I might add isn't very often, they're an excellent riding school but just this week I've had lessons cancelled and had to go back to a 125 for some of em which were fun but really need loads of practise on the 500 now coz they're talking about putting me in for test mid June can't wait to pass (IF) but if I don't I'll stick at it till I do I'm waffling now so once again thanks for the kind offer and the message I'm keeping a kinda log on here to let everyone know how I'm doingDawn xx

Re: Advice please Hiya Lady C Thanks for the message I've finally dropped my shoulders and feel a lot more in control just need to pass now then I can finally learn to ride (as they say) My friend failed last week which was a bit off putting coz he started same time as me and has had loads more lessons and I thought he was sh*t hot and confident. My instructor said the same about me whith my shoulders but I only do that now (& not so bad) when I'm doing the dreaded U Turns lol. I hired a 125 for the week which boosted me no end can't afford jack sh*t at the mo so no chance of a cheap bike but my partner says that'll all change when I pass my test (Me thinks he's right for once I have told him I'll just take the zzr1400 when he's not using it you can imagine his reply starts with F and ends with F. Better go do some work catch ya laterDawn xx
