Automatic CBT

Hi

I passed my test some years ago and now my wife is looking to take hers .

If she takes the CBT on an automatic will she be restricted to riding an automatic and only taking an automatic test ?
Or can she take the full test on a manual bike to get a manual licence after taking the CBT on an automatic , or will she then need to take a second CBT .

I can find all the info on this for the full tests , but not the CBT .

Cheers

Re: Automatic CBT

Greetings Mathsgeek and welcome to the forum

Found this info on my travels :-

Q. If I take my CBT on an automatic bike, am I allowed to ride a geared bike?
A. Strangely yes but we would recommend getting a couple of hours training with us on geared bike operation.

Q. Do I need to do another CBT to move from automatic to geared machines?
A. No, as long as the CBT is in force there is no need, but we do recommend that people upgrading or moving to geared machines have further training.

There was no reference to the source of this information which is why it's not on this forum, so I suggest that you check it out with a riding school first.

Re: Automatic CBT

Thank You

That is what I thought , although it doesn't seem right .
She was going to do some training but was just looking for a twist and go to get her started , but do some training before the test and take the test on a geared bike for a full licence .

Thank You
MG

A twist and go? scooter? The pennys just dropped - sorry!

You can do your CBT on a scooter and then move onto a geared bike, no problem as the CBT just makes sure that you can do an emergency stop, controll your ride, do traffic lights, roundabouts, junctions etc and basically to make sure that you can ride safely in traffic and are not a danger to other road users.

That rules out ninety per cent of the kids on scooters then

Re: Automatic CBT

Don't most CBT trainers supply a geared bike in the price of the CBT? They do round this way.

Re: Automatic CBT

Yes they do Scudnut but you can also do the CBT on a twist and go.

Most trainers find out what you ultimately want to ride and advise accordingly.
