Paul.
Did you learn to walk in a couple of days? did you learn to talk in a couple of days? did you learn to ride a push bike in a couple of days? did you learn to drive a car (assuming you have) in a couple of days?? So why are you expecting to learn to ride a bike so quickly??

I guess your feeling as you are coz you have been "forced" to complete your cbt learning at a pace faster than you would ideally comfortable with, so instead of learning each element and then building up confidence from each step taken, you have not really had that opportunity...

Take your time, pay for a few lessons on a 125, and see how you feel in a few weeks..you only stand to loose a few quid, but may gain a lifestyle, and life long enjoyment..

All the best, hope it works out for you

Paul, biking doesn't come naturally to me either, I did my CBT then went back for my DAS course and sacked it after about an hour, you can read about it here How many times to pass a bike test? post 105.

I bought a 125 and ride on quiet streets, empty car parks etc (alone) when I can and I simply can't tell you - no pressure from an instructor and only me to see my mistakes which I've learned from but at my own pace.

A couple of other members also came close to giving up, but went on to pass their tests, so your not alone in the way you feel

Re: Best place to do CBT & DAS

Thanks for all the replies, its helped alot.

I've decided not to give up, I'm going to get a 125 and practice myself. Then have some lessons when I feel abit more confident. I will then put in for my test when I feel its the right time.

I may not do it before october, but that doesn't really matter.

So I'm now looking for a 125, any advice on what to get.

Thanks again

Paul.

Re: Best place to do CBT & DAS

Good on you Paul

It's just sooooo different when your on your own bike and you let your shoulders drop and relax - it's great!

Don't worry about not getting your test in before October, go at your own pace, don't let anyone pressure you to take your test if you don't feel ready. You'll know yourself when you are.

Don't know what sorta bike your looking for, if you like cruiser's then I have a honda shadow, Scud's got a Marauder - pic's in the gallery. If you want a sporty bike, I'm sure you'll get loads of advice from the others when they come in

Re: Best place to do CBT & DAS

Thanks Grotbag,

Just had a look at your bike, very nice. Looks huge thou.

So far my choices are Honda CG125, Suzuki GN125 or Yamaha YBR125

Just got to find a nice used example, that doesn't cost too much.

Paul.

They all look like cracking bikes Paul

If you want an idea of what they are going for, keep your eye on ebay, (there's some new 2008 for less than £2,000!)

Yamaha YBR125 - All matching items for sale.

Suzuki GN125 - All matching items for sale.

Honda CG125 - All matching items for sale.

Re: Best place to do CBT & DAS

Hi Paul

Congrats on getting your CBT - as others have said, it's a totally different feeling when it's just you and you don't have the instructor in yer ear all the time!

As for bikes - can I stick my vote in for the Suzuki Marauder - cracking 125, really comfortable for the - ahem - 'larger build' such as myself, and good value too.

Stick with it - the big grins came for me when I went out on my own bike after the CBT, and they haven't stopped coming since (10 days so far!)
