Re: What's a Cam Chain?

a chain that goes round your cam ....... and its better than a cambelt

Timing belt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On my old Cavalier cage the cam chains were so stretched they sagged like Nora Battys stockings but it still run sweet as anything, My mates van went 100 miles over the recommended timing belt change mileage and it snapped bye bye engine

The camshaft/camshafts on an overhead camshaft 4 stroke engine run at 1/2 the speed of the crankshaft so te inlet and exhaust valve timing is maintained accurately, the cam chain drives the camshafts.
Some engines use bevel gears to drive the overhead cams but these are very tricky to set up when rebuilding an engine so that there is no play in the driveline.
