| Silly question time..........again ! Okay, so I have a question that may seem a bit silly. Say I go to buy a bike in a private sale, I've checked it out, everything seems great and I'm ready to buy. I hand over the money, take the keys and ride my new toy home. Now supposing I am unlucky enough to get pulled over by the police, what is the situation regarding insurance? Obviously I'm not going to buy insurance for a bike that I haven't seen in the flesh or test driven yet (especially if I have to drive to the other end of the country to look at it), so will they let it slide or will they act normally and demand the relevant papers? I'm guessing they will do their job properly and ask for my insurance documents and book me for ridding without cover! P.s It's almost the weekend.................. ![]() |

| Re: Silly question time..........again ! Agree with option 2, this is what i have always done, get a few quotes, and then when the transaction is complete, give them a bell and get instant cover. no sleepless night and a new toy to go play on ![]() |

You are in deep shit, police impound the bike until you sort the insurance out, you have several brownie points on your licence and you have to pay a big fee to get the bike back. (No insurance is a criminal offence.) It is easy enough to get insured over the phone and get cover straight away. My broker has always done so.

Depends on what time you strike the deal and if your insurance company works late. I've rang up my insurance company at 7pm and got a "all our agents are busy please hold the line and we will connect you to the next available agent....." After 20 mins on a mobile you simply hang up!! ![]()

| Re: Silly question time..........again ! well since i am a police officer, you need insurance to drive any bike on the road, you will get the bike taken off you, so you will have to pay to get it back aswell as how many days in the pound it has been in. we charge £120 to get it back and aswell as £10 a day its in, also if its not collected after 28 days it gets crushed. also they are cracking down on none insured drivers, so you wont get any points to start with cos you get taken to court over it and in my experiance none insured drivers ive took cars off get a min ban of 12 months. so take advise of others that have replied and get some quotes and the best one take a note of referance number and simply ring up when you collect the bike, i have done this and found it great as your instantly covered as said above, there is no need to ever drive anything with no insurance ![]() Hope this helps |

| Re: Silly question time..........again ! As Ste just said, it just isn't worth taking a chance - make sure you have the insurance before you even put the key in the ignition, |
