I'm so confused, please help! Hi all, OK, soooo many options I really don't know what to do! I have passed my CBT (about a month ago now) and have just had an offer for my car which I'm going to accept. I'm over 21, and really can't decide what to do. I REALLY want to do my DAS and get a big bike, but after getting a quote last night on a Honda CBR600F for £2.8k I really can't afford the insurance on a big bike. So what I'm thinking of doing is doing my DAS and then getting a 250cc bike, should be fairly nippy and it's affordable (£700 insurance) But then this morning I've started thinking I should just get a 125 and learn on that for 6 months, then take my test! that would cost me very little money, but would take a while :\ would I be building up my no claims even if I don't have my full licence yet? I really can't decide what to do! did all your insurance quotes for a big bike come up expensive? I'm just suprised, I'm 23, have loads of road experience and thought it would be much cheaper! I don't mind paying UP TO ~£1k for insurance (even third party) but can't get anything near that low :-( What would you guys do? do you think I will get bored on a 125? what about the 250 idea? Many thanks for ANY advice! I will have about £4k to spend on Gear, Bike AND insurance (as well as tests if I decide to do my DAS) Andy

Re: I'm so confused, please help! Hiya Andy Just a quick reply the test changes for motorcycles after the 28th of September, I just passed my DAS 2 weeks ago paid 420 for it (passed 1st time) or it would of been dearer got a cb600 with insurance costing 175 fully comp but I am 40 and female but I went on comapre the market.com to get a quote and it came up bennetts with honda insurance nobody could touch em and it includes all the legal stuff. The guys may be able to help with all the other stuff but my bloke tells me he got bored very quickly on the smaller bikes oh and I never had any experience or no claims so I think I got a bloody good deal Hope this helps a bit Dawn

Re: I'm so confused, please help! As above really. Not sure what you can do about lowering your quote other than trying some of the comparison sites. Bennetts worked out cheapest for me, but have to admit I didn't spend ages looking. One of the downsides of being young I guess. ![]() If I was you I'd go for DAS and cut back on what you spend on the bike (that might lower your insurance a tad?). You've admitted yourself that this is really what you want to do, so go for it, and good luck. Last edited by DaveM : 06-24-2008 at 03:57 PM.

Re: I'm so confused, please help! Hi I found Bennets cheapest for me through compare.com as well, but again, am 40 and female. Had 5 years experience but no no claims. They were good for my past bikes as well, an er6 and a hornet 600. You might find ins is expensive for some 600 bikes and not others - depends what performance you want. Hornet600 is definitely quick enough and probably not as expensive I passed my test on a 125 and enjoyed riding in, but if you think you're ready for a big bike you probably will get bored, save yourself some money and go for DAS Last edited by rv-57-gaz : 06-24-2008 at 04:56 PM.

Re: I'm so confused, please help! That sounds like a ridiculously high quote. I take it that's fully comp? Maybe you should consider going 3rd party. I'd do some serious surfing, I'm sure you can get cheaper than that. Tesco's is a good comparison site. Your quote makes my sub-£150 insurance look very low, and I'm 'only' 35. I'm sure you'd regret it if you didn't go direct access, I hated being restricted and the last few months were agony.

Re: I'm so confused, please help! I'm with the rest, get your DAS done before October. A 125 would be cheaper on insurance but I doubt the big bike fun factor will be there. I recently passed my CBT and DAS, about £580, some gear cost me about £250 and I found a tidy but old 1991 ZZR 600 for £800, I am 34 and my insurance was £150 with bennets. I was going to go down the 125 route after my DAS to get some experience under my belt but I am glad I got the big bike and yess it not as new as I would have liked but bike is sound and I love it. Plus if I drop it I only spent £800 notes ![]() Ooops and welcome to the forum Andy Last edited by Shamblatron : 06-24-2008 at 05:27 PM. Reason: added welcome

Re: I'm so confused, please help! Hi try something boring like a CBF1000 or even a old CB500, low insurance group and like everyone else, surf the net .... I used moneysupermarket.com and have got one or three marks on my license and past and still got cheap insurance for my CBF1000! Good luck
