Re: What is the best security device?

Locked shed, within a locked compound (6ft high walls all round).

In the shed a ground anchor is concreted into floor, with oxford heavy chain, and large pad lock through forks and front wheel. Abus u lock through swinging arm and rear wheel

Shed door reinforced with angle iron, and double locked.

And then there's George who lives in the compound at night

so that's 2 gates, 5 locks, and a rotty... is that overkill?

Re: What is the best security device?

He's a cutie! Hi George!

Reading all that jonny has just made me remember something I either read or watched on the telly about vehicle thefts, think it was cars - cant remember now

But the gist of it all was that you need to make it harder to steal your vehicle than others in the same area, apparently thieves will go for the easier target.

I also remember seeing somewhere that most bike thefts are done by opportunists and are unplanned, don't know how much of it is true though

Some time's my mind doesn't only wander, it leaves completely ...........

Re: What is the best security device?

Hi Kenny, I'd plump for a good ground anchor for Home, Disc lock's front and back and a CAT 1 alarm for when your away. Use all three at home. This may seem a bit paranoid but if you value your Bike as much as I do you won't give the thieving sods a chance. I know this is expensive, but not as expensive as having your wheels nicked only to get messed around by greedy insurance companies who will do anything to not pay you out. Hope this helps?..... One of the other things to do if you can is hide the thing away, I never leave mine out on show. I am lucky as I have a garage and anti spy gates.

Re: What is the best security device?

Totally agree with Manky, its all about getting the insurance bods to pay up, because sadly if the bastards want your bike bad enough, 9 times outta 10 there gonna get it.

you can never have enough protection

Re: What is the best security device?

Normally the bike has to stay out the front, because I've got no space for it at the back without moving the cars every day.

However, when we go away for weekends or longer, I'll hide it away in the back garden!

Re: What is the best security device?

two discs locks 1 front 1 back, english chain x2, 2 home made 2 1/2" stainless steel hoops concreted into the foundations of my workshop floor, 3 mulitpin locks on workshop doors and an alarm for the workshop with the siren inside the house, so if someone sets it off, the first they know is when im standing next to them tapping a baseball bat in my hand asking 'what the fu*k are you doing, all of that is behind a 10ft high reinforced fence

young at heart and still faster than you

Re: What is the best security device?

After have my ZX-6R knicked (as whinged about in anothe thread), I went out and spent £200 on an Oxford Monster chain and an Oxford alarmed disc lock. Both are 5 minutes + attack tested and Thatcham approved.
Hopefully this will deter the bastards.

Also on the look out for a George!!!
