| What is the best security device? Hi all, beautiful sunshine today.......just a shame I'm stuck in the office ![]() I completed my CBT last week, will have a few more 125 lessons at the end of July before moving onto my DAS throughout August........................I can't wait that long, it's killing me!! I've been looking at bikes and have narrowed it down to 4 or 5 i'm interested in (CBR600, SV650, Thundercat, Hornet, Bandit). I've done a lot of research on all of them and they seem like good first bikes. What I'm not so sure on is....................what is the best type of security device? Is it best to use the multiple chain, U-lock, alarm method or would that be a bit silly? What do you guys use? What has your experience taught you? Note how I say "experience" and not "age" ![]() Cheers Kenny |

| Re: What is the best security device? Hiya Kenny Congrats on the CBT, hope you're enjoying it as much as I am! I can't speak from experience on the security measures, but for reasons of paranoia I use a disclock on the front wheel, and then a heavy Oxford Products chain & padlock on the back, going round a railing at the front of the house. I'm also thinking about a ground anchor. So I'll second Kenny's question and defer to experience, if anyone has some recommendations to make! Neil |

| Re: What is the best security device? Hi Neil, I was very shaky at first on my CBT but as the day wore on I got more confident. Those U-turns took a while but I managed to nail a few out on the road. I'm too impatient to wait till the end of July/beginning of August to jump back on! I see you're a Family Guy fan...........better than The Simpsons? I think so ![]() Kenny |

| Re: What is the best security device? ellos kenny, well done on your CBT, have you stopped grinning yet? I have a heavy D lock that I put through my front wheel around the forks but I park in my garage and haven't been anywhere to leave it yet, but I'm liking the idea of these disc locks ( with the curly whirly thingy) There's another thread about alarms here Alarm versus Insurance and the gist of it all is that no one pays attention to alarms anymore ![]() |

| Re: What is the best security device? I use a disc lock when im out and about plus the bikes also has a factory fitted alarm its parked on the drive at night luckily i live in a quiet neighbourhood so theres allways somebody on the look out if i move though i would invest in a ground anchor. |

I know what you mean about alarms, I never pay any attention to them when they go off. I don't even know what my car alarm sounds like Suppose that's a good thing though! | |

| Re: What is the best security device? i have it on good authority that an almax chain is the best you can get and its made in uk, so one of them for at home and a good disc lock for out and about. i use a.222 rifle for at home and have a cheapo alarm for out and about and also own 2 half decent disc locks ![]() .............................Sam |

| Re: What is the best security device? Hi Kenny - welcome on in and congrats on your CBT Im told by our local constabulary that .50 cal electric miniguns and 50,000 volts wire up to the steel door handles are somewhat frowned upon ![]() So I have a tracker and datatool system 4 on the bike A halfway decent alarm system on the house n garage that makes an appaling racket when it goes off (usually when I forget ) and all the neighbours come out n have a look to make sure its me - we have an agreement here where if a burglar alarm goes off we wander up n have a nosey. And a ground anchor n chain in the garage out and about I have a oxford lock and chain, but gonna swap this for a disclock cos its too bloody bulky and heavy Slight overkill possibly ![]() Last edited by Bill CBF1000 : 07-01-2008 at 04:22 PM. | Re: What is the best security device? For me: Disc lock (with twirly whatsername)when out. Locked garage and two dogs that bark when someone comes up the drive for home. Perhaps I'm the other extreme to Bill?! ![]() |

| Re: What is the best security device? I use an alarm and an Abus granite U lock on the back wheel. The lock fits under the seat really good. I'm not a lover of disc locks as I have almost rode off with one attached (twice) ![]() |
