Re: Out in the 60mph roads As everyone says you'll get used to the winds after a while, the 125's are light and will catch the wind but not as much as a fully faired larger bike, I hadve had to lean into the wind quite substantially on the 400 in the past just to keep in a straight line ![]() Just keep getting out on it, you'll get used to it and have fun every day. I keep forgetting to rebuild my car at the mo cos I'm in no rush to put the bike away, thats when you know the bug is well and truly there especially when you start not caring if you get rain with that wind .Mine used to, mind you it was a tuned rg gamma that had a biiiig flatspot and stuttered past 50, then it just picked up and went.

Re: Out in the 60mph roads been riding about 6 weeks now and was constantly sh"$$$ng myself above 45mph when the wind was blowing, but have got used to it now and as they say in american pie "its a perfectly natural normal thing". gonna do a 35 mile dual carriageway run tmrw on my little 125 so looking forward to getting shuffled about by the wind - will be riding up the same road i did my cbt on - this time however it'll be dry and i wont have some bloke telling me to speed up all the time, i think he'd had a bad week (not much patience for me and my driving miss daisy routine). he did say he had a raf pilot in the week before on a DAS who had refused to go above 55mph cos he didnt like the feeling - and he was a jet pilot. hope you start feeling more confident about the speed soon

Re: Out in the 60mph roads Clothing can also play a small part in wind i learnt this after buying some leathers i was riding around with two jumpers on covered by a puffy jacket all that nylon was catching the wind being puffy stuffed with all that hairy stuff and GOD help you if you come off wearing nylon and slide. Otherwise if you're not confident enough just slow down and vary your speeds up and down untill you get used to the wind you will do in no time considering it's summer all that wind is nice on your face ![]() Last edited by Dave321 : 07-23-2008 at 09:24 PM.

Re: Out in the 60mph roads problem has been solved - my tyres were like pancakes, you could literally push them in with your hands haha. Feels much better now, still really windy, not the best at keeping in a straight line but i'll keep practising!

Re: Out in the 60mph roads Hi there Yeah, I was out on my 125 Varadero yesterday... and nearly shat myself in all that wind! Nearly chickened out by staying off the main roads - but had a strong word with myself and went for it. Really... really enjoying it on the bike. And particularly enjoying getting stuck in traffic at junctions and roundabouts as I get to practice my slow ride/stop start technique... fabulous fun!

Re: Out in the 60mph roads Just had my first long run out down to lincoln and got the overtaking and filtering thing out the window but shat myself when I overtook a large curtainsider wagon (and it was a foreign one) on the straightest road in the uk I knew it was windy but didn't anticipate the way it blew my left leg off the tank after I'd passed it but it's done now and I'm over the panick ![]()

Re: Out in the 60mph roads The old wind blast can take some getting used too... the other fun trick you can get with wind and wagons is the sudden left turn... If there is a strong left to right crosswind and a dual carriage way, you will be leaning left to go straight.. disappear behind a curtain-sider whilst overtaking it. Suddenly there is no wind and the unwary rider can veer off left toward the vehicle acting as a wind break... Thats fun the first time it catches you out ![]()

Re: Out in the 60mph roads Oh aye I remember my first trip on the DC I thought it was crazy with the wind resistance, fortunately that went quickly and I dont even notice it anymore. What I do notice is the real strong gusts that blow my wheels out without any warning, but you get used to that too eventually! It scares the wits out of some of the guys that like to drive 2 foot from my number plate, though ![]()
