| Passed Big Bike test (2nd attempt)!! Hi Folks, Passed a couple of weeks ago and am still on a high. Though the insurance quotes I'm getting on a CBR 600 RR are bringing me back down to earth!!! I did a CBT plus 4 day DAS course (having never sat on a bike before) a couple of months ago and failed first time on a 125. Did want to do it on a 500, but day before the test whilst out practicing u-turns, put my foot down on the curb, lost balance and slammed down hard on my left shoulder, brusing my collar bone! OUCH!!! Instructor insisted I sit the test on a 125, I disagreed but he wasn't having it, and that was that. On the test I was wobbling about like a pillock and unsurprisingly I failed. I wouldn't advise anyone at the last minute to back down from 500 to 125. Instructor said "you belong in a car mate, forget riding a bike, you'll never pass the test!" Needless to say we parted company. Collected my thoughts and a couple of weeks later, booked a retest and went to a different instructor, booked a 2 day DAS, same test centre and low and behold the same examiner. Instructor only gave me 30% chance of passing this time, but to his disbelief (and mine!) I did it, with 2 minors! Did notice that on the first attempt the examiner was watching me like a hawk, because I looked uncomfortable from the outset, i guess. My attitude for the retest was, well screw it, I don't stand much chance of passing so may as well at least look confident. This helped me relax, concentrate on putting everything I had learned together. This time though, as I glanced at the examiner in my mirrors he was noticibly distracted. So I guess its quiet obvious to them whether a rider is confident or not, very early on in the test. Can't afford a bike at the moment, DAS's cleaned me out completely!!! Found this forum very helpful in keeping my spirits up, when those around me were doubting. I think the poem goes "If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you........" ('IF' by Rudyard Kipling) Good luck to those that are in the process and respect to those that have completed. PS: Even got lost on the emergency brake manuover (took first left round the block instead of second left) and still bloody passed!! Thanks M Last edited by montana : 08-12-2008 at 09:11 PM. |
