Can't ride but want to learn need advice on purchase

Hi All

Sadly i am a 37 year old guy that has never learnt to drive/ride. My last experience with a ride with 2 wheels was in my 20's on holiday in Crete. I was on a scooter on some crappy road and came off. No insurance taken at the time and no major injuries just my price.

Anyway due to be made redundant and was looking to buy a scooter assuming i pass my CBT test which i plan to take in the near future.

I came here just looking for advice from anyone in regards to what kind of model scooter to purchase with a 50 cc engine. I would be use to get me from A to B as local transport sometimes doesnt go where i need it to.

My budgest is £250-£1000. Not fussed if new or not just want an idea of what to look for.

Thanks in advance all.

A 1 year old Yamaha Neos is probably the best 50cc for you. A mate has one, and nothing has gone wrong with it and he has owned it for over a year and i see him on on it a lot.

Avoid 50cc over 3 years old, they tend to go wrong.

hello and welcome to the forum clinteast. i would say do your CBT and get a 125cc as the 50 will only do about 35mph flat out the 125 should do 60mph and will be much more fun

Hello mate,
The Jap and Italian stuff is probably the most reliable but even so they aint built to last. Problem is there is no other way than thrashing them(if you know what I mean).
Just call in and let us know what make, model you are looking into.

How long do you plan to use the 50 for?
£549.00, Brand new (add about £80-100 for delivery)
Direct Bikes Scooter - Buy 125cc and 50cc (49cc) Scooters Direct

Avoid. That is bad advise, they are unreliable i laugh at them (by accident, may i add).

If you want a nice bike that will last for ages, then i would recommend a Honda CG 125. They are not particually fast, but my mate had one, and it did 71,000miles before it died due to piston rings failing, which is only a £34 part and £70 job anyway...and he tuned the bugger too, so it is very good.
