| Re: Is this true? New tests? To digress only a little bit, cos Im tooooo scared of that man with the big stick to hijack a topic totally and too tired and busy to read lots of topics , did I read somewhere about they are planning on scrapping doing the practical test on a 125 after 2013 and it will have to be done on a bike with a cc greater than 500, thus rendering a lot of bike school bikes useless as they are 498cc |

Im so sorry ... I think you've mistaken me for somebody who gives a F%^K

Nope it's 2011, 17 year olds will be able to take an A1 test on a 125 but they will be restricted to only a 125 until they are 19 then they can do an A2 test on a bike 500cc or more and again restricted to 47 BHP for 2 years. Then at 21 another test on a 600cc for a full licence. As I understand it, they have to do a CBT before each of the 3 test's, it's all in here;- The 3rd European Driving Licence Directive

| Re: Is this true? New tests? so when do they start limiting 17 year olds to cars under 1000cc for 2 years then 1600cc for two years before a third test in a 1800 or above for unlimited license? what the hell is this country coming too its a total disgrace |

| Re: Is this true? New tests? I don't have a problem with younger riders being restricted for a couple of years, but to make them resit a CBT and test 3 times smacks of profiteering to me. I don't like it that it's only motorcycles that are restricted by age, either do it for cars as well or scrap the whole idea - can't be doing with double standards. ![]() |

what they fail to realise that there are people that will jump through any hoop to get on a bike..and plenty that will just opt to ignore the hoops totally and ride unqualified ![]() Either way, your right Maccy the theory tests is pretty much shameless profiteering.

I also think it's a load of bollocks making people resit tests, especially if they have been on the road learning how to ride during that time. Was easy when I did mine, I did my proficiency certificate (could still ride on the road beforehand) then part one, followed by part two. I think it only took a couple of months to complete everything, the lessons being done in the old park tennis courts, and the road training taking place with a group of about 6 people. As for the car licence thing it is unbelievable that a 17 year old can drive a high powered car as long as they have the money to do so. There is a private school up the road from us (the one that Steve Mc Clarens kids were at) and there's a student there who, at 17 had a maserati !!! There should definately be a restriction on car licences, plus there should be tougher laws on chavs that have cars looking like they have crashed through halfords window, and come out with all the bits stuck on. After blinging up my last bike, I know only too well the hoops I had to jump through just to get insurance and be legal, there's no way most of these cars have all the stuff declared on their insurance. Do it on a bike and you are instantly a target for being pulled and having your bike scrutineered for the tiniest thing that might contravene the "construction and use" laws. ![]() I rest my case. ![]() I think the gradual upgrading of bikes is a good thing but should be 'time served' rather than a test each time so there is just one big test at the end regardless of age and I also think the 17 -21 age group car learners should be restricted in the same way .............. ![]()
