On a 33brake test, what cc of bike do i use? a 500cc or a 125cc?

Or something inbetween?

Re: 33bhp test?

as your under 21 you can't do a DAS test .......... it's all in here Rob, have a read of it all :- Motorcycles you can ride

Quote:
Motorcycles you can ride
A moped has a maximum design speed not exceeding 50 km/h (approx. 31 mph). It has an engine capacity no greater than 50 cc and can be moved by pedals, if first used before 1 August 1977. A learner motorcycle has an engine up to 125 cc and a power output not exceeding 11 kW

Full motorcycle licence

There are two types of full motorcycle licence:

* a light motorcycle licence (A1), which restricts riders to any bike up to 125 cc and a power output of 11 kW. The practical test must be taken on a bike of between 75 cc and 125 cc
* a standard motorcycle licence (A), is obtained if the practical test is taken on a bike of over 120 cc but not more than 125 cc and capable of at least 100 km/h per hour. After passing the standard motorcycle practical test, you will be restricted for two years to riding a bike of up to 25 kW and a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kW/kg. After this you may ride any size of bike

Note:
The BMW C1 motorcycle is not a suitable machine for a practical test.

Re: 33bhp test?

Restrictions on what you can ride: Maximum of 33 b.h.p./25 kW with a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16kW/kg and then after two years the licence automatically matures so that you can ride any size of bike. If the bike you want does exceed 33 b.h.p./25 kW, you will need to get the engine restricted down to 33 b.h.p./25 kW. If you reach the age of 21 before your licence matures, you can lift the restriction by taking your test again on a larger machine (Accelerated Access)
Minimum age: 17
Minimum test vehicle: Any motorcycle over 120cc and less than 125cc and capable of at least 62.5 m.p.h. (100 km/h). There must be certification to back this up.
Allows you to: Carry passengers, discard your L-plates and to ride on motorways.

Re: 33bhp test?

Your U-turn should be a piece of piss Rob, nothing to worry about

I know they say use the back brake, but if the back brake is anything like my Kawasaki's you'll lock up the back wheel, stall & fall off the second you put any pressure on it

Slow and steady is the key with a nice balance between your clutch and throttle, it doesn't matter if you over-rev, just pull the clutch in a little bit more so you have less bite.

One way I found to give me good clutch/throttle control when I started riding was hill starts.

Best of luck with your test, just don't hang onto anything you might think is a mistake because it might not be in your examiners eyes.

If at first you don't succeed buy a snipers rifle, hire a clown suit and climb a clock tower

Re: 33bhp test?

Davethemonkey, When you say the bike needs certification that it meets the requirements, is this generic or specific?, ie, could I do the 33bhp test on my own YBR 125cc. I am clocking up several hundred miles a week, so figure might just go in for it without tuition, rather than take a week off to do a direct access course next year as I don't need a bigger bike, but it would be useful where I live to be able to go on motorways.
