Re: Newbie - Cruiser Choice?

'Lo Peter Opinions on the Virago? Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole! You'll not go wrong with the Dragstar or the Shadow. The Bonneville's not really a cruiser but it's a fantastic bike- got one after my DAS so I'm biased- but Triumph do the America and Speedmaster And the almighty Rocket!!

Victory - very nice bikes, IMHO better than HD's (but I'm biased now).
I daren't tell you how much mine cost though

Re: Newbie - Cruiser Choice?

You will have no problem with a 650 cruiser after your DAS. DAS will be on something like a 500cc sports bike which will probably be faster off the mark and more responsive than your cruiser.
My other half bought a Jinlun 125 this time last year and rode it all Winter practicing. She then took her DAS on a Kawasaki 500 (I think) when she passed she got straight onto a Harley Sportster and whilst she is still getting used to the weight of it she has no problem at all with the engine size - to be honest the power output of a Harley is all grunt and so quite easy to manage. Don't know if that is the same philosophy of the Jap cruisers but if it is, I doubt you would have any problems with even the bigger engined brutes.
Good luck

Re: Newbie - Cruiser Choice?

HI Joolz

Thanks for your advice, I certainly would prefer the XVS650 overall, but budget may restrict me of course! Depends what I can get when i offload the 'cage'. I won't be getting any finance so it will be a cash buy.

I figured that the Virago 535 will soon feel sluggish - although if budget is restricted I might have to re-think.

Certainly, I would be looking for an earlier XVS650, over 5 years I think (they came out around 2000 didn't they?).

The bonneville is just sooo nice though, one that would certinly tempt me away from the cruiser, but that and the Sportster I see me getting down the line. You have to have something to drool over, huh?

Cheers

Peter

If only

Currently in negotiation for a 400cc version. Still got a bit to go before I can trade up. Can't wait

Got the pic off MCN, itll be tough finding one for less than over £2'500, but well worth the money.

Shouldn't worry about jumping to a 650 from das, you'll want a bigger engine sooner than you think!

Edit: On the other hand - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=110290758792 £2'350 and you could probs haggle him down a few £s.

Good find that one grots, very nice.

Re: Newbie - Cruiser Choice?

I had an M800 for 2 months last year until it got written off by a focus driver who decided to side swipe me

It was a nice bike and I made a few cosmetic changes but don't expect it to be very quick, nice for cruising around though (obviously). I didn't look at the others though in the same category I just saw it and wanted it
