I'll see your 4 and raise you another 4!

I found u-turns on a cg125 easy - could do them with my eyes closed.
When I moved to the 500 I put a foot down about 60% and only got a smooth u-turn about 20% of the time. About an hour before my test I practiced a few and got most of them. Still think it was a lot of luck that I did an ok one on my test.

I think its already been mentioned, but erm, practice makes perfect
And keep your head up & look where you want to go.

Re: U Turn If You Want To...

Did one the other day at my mates place, and was so pleased with myself, as I had lots of problems from my CBT onwards. I could easily uturn left, but right was just beyond me on my CBT.

I ended up on an industrial estate each evening practicing on my 125 Varadero, but found it so much easier to do on an ER5 on my training days.

Re: U Turn If You Want To...

don't think I'll get much better at U turns cos I avoid em whenever possible rather than practise em.
personally I don't see why such importance is attached to em either, unless they're just a measure of yer slow manouvre control - they ain't exactly essential in every day biking

Yeah... shudder, shudder... ! I like the "hire a clowns suit and climb a tower with a rifle" comment someone has as their footer. If all else fails - which, given that I intend to practice even cockadoody more - I may take this option!

I was watching something on the telly the other day and they were on about turns in the road for car's being about control and observation, said that was the same as the U turn for bikes, control and observation ...

Re: U Turn If You Want To...

yeah but the thing is, not all bikes have the same amount of lock on them. some need a wider road to U turn than others - or is that just me & mine?

Re: U Turn If You Want To...

What ever the bike was that I did my cbt on was great, real tight U turns no problems but now my bike, well, need a full nice size road or it's no good

Re: U Turn If You Want To...

try it on a heavy sports bike with dropped bars GB, all yer weight on the front, yer elbows up against the tank and hands wedged between the bars & tank - I like (need) to use the pavement on both sides of a narrow road to avoid a bit of a shuffle

Thats exactly what i'm doing on my Varadero! God I hate U-turns. When I pass my test I will never attempt one again!
