Unhappy Need to sell car before I get a bike

Hi all,

I've got my car listed on ebay for a month, it's got a couple weeks left to go but I've only had a couple of offers and one contact. I need to sell the car before I can get my first bike! The only people that have shown interest in the listing live hundreds of miles away!

One guy has made me an offer, but he lives 300miles away and hasn't been to view. I've said on the listing that 'you are bidding to buy, not to view'. Does anyone else find it suspisious that someone would bid on a car that they had only seen a few photos of, never heard it running etc.

My biggest concern is that I don't even know what I should be asking for, I don't want to be ripped off and let it go too cheap, but I don't want to decline decent offers and then for it to go unsold

I've always found with ebay that the more information you give (good and bad) and plenty of photos (you can have 12 for autos) so they can see you're being honest, the better. I sold 2 cars on there, sight unseen, because I was totally honest about all of the faults and told the buyers that if they found anything else when they arrived and they weren't happy, they could walk away. Both buyers turned up, paid cash and went away happy because they got what was described and what they expected. Don't worry about the fact that they may be far away geographically - one of my buyers came from the Wirral and one from Coventry. If they're travelling so far they've already made up their mind it's what they want, as long as you've been totally up front about it.
As to price - its worth what someone is prepared to pay for it - you have to decide if that's enough for you though. They tend to sell for less on ebay though.

At the end of the day, if someone win's it and comes to collect (only accept cash on collection) they pay up if it's as you described or they don't or might even haggle a little with you!

Some time's my mind doesn't only wander, it leaves completely ...........

Re: Need to sell car before I get a bike

We have bought 4 or 5 cars off e-bay and 2 bikes without seeing them first. Its important to read the sellers feedback but it really is a case of being willing to take the risk. If the car is obviously not as described then we would not hand over the cash for it but this has not happened. Then again car wise we would not buy something for more than about £1,500.

parkers guide gives a rough idea of what yer car's worth. then check current & previous ebay listings for similar cars - and importantly, whether they actually sold is it listed as an auction? or best offer?

I can't give him that now, youv'e spoilt the suprise, best swap it for some socks

Sorry gone off topic,
E-bay is good for buying cars as long as you go into it with your eyes open.
Youv'e still got a couple of weeks to run Chris, chances are the bidding will go up in the last day, did you put a reserve on it?
