| CBT Experiences Hi All, Did my CBT today, started at 9 this morning and got home at 6, long day on a bike, but I've got my certificate now and heading towards my DAS in a couple of weeks. I've been reading this forum for weeks now trying to pik up any tips I could, so now it's my turn to pass on to any other newbies like myself.Started at 9 with the basic intro to the bike, in my case a Suzuki van van, followed by easy circuits of the car park, 3 of us in the group and we'd all had at least 4 hours assessment lessons beforehand (which I heartily recommend). From there to the usual slow control excercises, riding at walking pace, figure of 8's and U-turns, all ok once you learn to look where you want the bike to go. From there, we rode a circuit with simulated junctions on the road, practicing turning into minor/major roads, indicating correctly and lifesavers. That was a couple of hours this morning taken up, followed by an hour or so classroom work, mostly instruction around the highway code, and positioning yourself for junctions, roundabouts etc. followed by lunch. The afternoon was then a couple of hours road riding. No idea why I was nervous about this, I've driven a car on roads for 21 years but felt like an absolute beginner again. This was putting everything we learned in the morning into practice. One off maneouvres included a hill start, emergency stop, and another u-turn, which I managed to put my feet down on, despite never having done that in practice. Tip - Do not stare at the opposite curb, or that's where you'll end up. From there it was a lot more relaxed, the instructor basically giving directions and letting you learn from your own mistakes. By the last hour I was absolutely loving it, only hearing from the instructor to tell me I'd lost him at a roundabout and not to worry he'd catch up. Chuffed to get my certificate, and daren't sit on the sofa for fear of falling asleep now, hard work today, but throughly enjoyable. Bring on the full test now. Sorry to ramble on, but I hope some people totally new to biking will find this informative. Cheers Si |
