Question...

In the last few months of riding of my 125cc i have had caused 2 near misses.

Both caused by me slamming brakes on just before a speed camera and not knowing what the speed limit, both times i heard screech of brakes behind me.

And may i add, i have had very few near misses since ive had my 125.

My distrust of speed cameras doesn't help either.

So...err i was going at the speed limit both times i slammed my brakes on...too...

I don't think it is the speed i am worried about, i don't trust speed cameras.

It is vibrations that worry me the most.

50cc and 125cc are buzzy.

Re: Question...

if you go through a scamera and it flashes, if you were not speeding then the photographic evidence will prove that you were within the limit

Re: Question...

First thing:

Rob, it's worrying you're "slamming brakes on" rather than anticipating the speed cam ahead, especially if you're having "near misses" which from what you say is a vehicle behind you reacting to your heavy braking.

You're going to come a cropper if you keep that up bud and you ain't gonna pass a test riding like that.

Second thing:

I don't think speed cams flash people regardless unless they're over the speed limit sufficiently to trigger the cam. I've only even been flashed the once and on that occasion I was speeding.

If at first you don't succeed buy a snipers rifle, hire a clown suit and climb a clock tower

Re: Question...

think you should be more aware of the speed zone you are entering and slow down gradually, on the test you MUST take rear observation when reducinng speed (or accelerating say from a 30 to a 40) .slammin the brakes on is askin for trouble

Re: Question...

If you are that bad, consider one of these. I can recommend the seller and the unit as I bought two.

At least it will give you some advance warning.

Yes you need to read the road signs after you have checked your mirrors and before adjusting your speed etc. Road speeds 30mph if it has street lights and no repeaters. 40mph no street lights and you will see 40 repeaters. Rob please don't break heavy as you may hit oil or fuel, then your be off
And I speak for all of us here - we wouldn't want anything to happen to you hun

You just contradicted yourself. If you were going at the limit, you would have been fine, camera's have to have a degree of tolerance built in. Next time you might not be so lucky and the vehicle behind you may not react in time.
I would suggest reading up on the various limits for different types of road, then you wont be "slamming on the brakes" every time you see a yellow box.

Re: Question...

It sounds like you need a bit of instruction Rob mate, or at least get your riding assessed. If I need help I get it, it can only be a good thing and it may save your life.

Ok, let me clarify myself.

I was going at the speed limit, but didn't know what the speed limit.

I might get one of those speed camera detectors.

Nearest speed camera = 12miles away (but it is on a road i use everyday so no problems).

Plymouth way (a few times a month, might need to go up there 5-6 times a month in the near future) is where i have problems, there are loads of speed cameras, bad signage, too many signs in such a short space and generally drivers are more impatient, arrogent and agressive that way. Plymouth and landrake (main road to plymouth from bodmin) is conidciently where i nearly caused the 2 accidents...
