| bhp, cc, kw, power weight ratio I know, I know but there you go .................. another one of 'those' questions, well three actually...... possibly more depending on how blond I am when I interpret your answers ![]() ![]() Is brake horse power to do with the acceleration of the car / bike and the top speed it will do? Having only ever bought cars before I understand the different engine sizes (1,200, 1,400, 1,600 etc) the bigger the engine size = more powerful car, and I've got the hang of it with bikes in cc's, I think. What I don't get is power output in kilowatts ![]() and does power / weight ratio mean the fatter the person is sat on it that it will go slightly slower ![]() .......................... as I'm feeling very, very blond today, please answer as if your explaining to a ten year old ![]() ![]() |

| Re: bhp, cc, kw, power weight ratio Power to weight usually means BHP per ton Power output in Kilowatts is the european version of BHP BHP needs looking at closely as some manufacturers show this reading from the crankshaft. The one that matters is what it produces at the rear wheel. Quote:

| Re: bhp, cc, kw, power weight ratio 1 hp ≡ 33,000 ft·lbf/min by definition = 550 ft·lbf/s since 1 min = 60 s = 550 × 0.3048 × 0.45359237 m·kgf/s since 1 ft = 0.3048 m and = 76.0402249068 kgf·m/s 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg = 76.0402249068 × 9.80665 kg·m²/s³ g = 9.80665 m/s² = 745.69987158227022 W since 1 W ≡ 1 J/s = 1 N·m/s = 1 (kg·m/s²)·(m/s) |

| Re: bhp, cc, kw, power weight ratio What I understand = A 20 horse power engine has the same power as twenty horses, then the Europe tries to metrificate it (I made that word up ) so it doesn't make as much sense![]() I'm certain Spree's right about the main difference between BHP and Kw(SAE) being the latter is measured from the engine instead of the wheels. |
