I feel apologetic for asking............

Ok, so I'm about to take an intensive direct access course to get myself a bike licence! Something which I've been eager to do for a long time. I've been saving for a long time and bought all my gear apart from the most important thing................a bike!

I've been into bike shops and have a strange attraction to Honda. But I don't trust these scumbag dealers who will tell me anything to sell a bike! I really hope you guys can help I've been doing net research, but nothing beats the opinion of a REAL biker!

So a bit about me, I'm 22, female, 5' 10", not particularly strong (I'd say av chick strength), complete novice rider, living in London and I'd like something sporty looking but understand that this may not be the best kind of ride for me! I drive a car for work so this would purely be for pleasure and beating the congestion charge on the odd ocassion! Any recommendations would be much appreciated, I'm completely lost!

Thanks guys,

Love Nat xx

PS - I have about £5k and don't mind if it's new/used

Hi Nat and welcome in hun - choosing a bike is more down to personal preference and you would get a better response if we knew what type of bike you prefer, i.e. sports, cruiser, trail bike etc.... But I am a honda man myself

Hi Spree, cheers for the welcome. The site looks great!

I definitely prefer sports bikes. I'm still in the "sports bike sexy-haze" I'd also like it to last me a fair while......5 years or so. So I suppose it would be something I'd grow in to....if that makes sense!

I want something that looks like a superbike but doesn't require superbike talent to ride!!

xx

Re: I feel apologetic for asking............

To be honest I wouldnt spend a fortune on a first bike (thats the one you usually make the daft mistakes on!) and I wouldn't go for anything too extreme.

If you like Honda's then the older CBR 600 is a good bet - not too extreme but fast enough for most uses (I had one of the old ones for a while and loved it).

Another one that springs to mind is the VFR 800, this bike will do anything you like and is very comfortable with a peach of a motor. Both of these can be picked up for around 3K in fantastic condition.

Glad you like the site

Re: I feel apologetic for asking............

i have to agree with everything spree said..hondas are bullet proof and you would definitely be better of with an older bike first, just incase you have the odd mishap, though i do know of people who bought new bikes and didnt drop them.but they all live in the sticks.for city riding ,second hand would be better for the first year.

trust me! im a druid

Hi Nat, totally agree with what has been said before, as an idea, for your first bike how about buying the bike you are learning on? You will already be comfortable on it and once your confidence had built up, sell it for something else?

hi nat n welcome....
hate to disagree with suggestions BUT..personnally think that a 600 bandit is an ideal bike for what you want...
they are prob the easiest bike to ride, have all the power that you will need in your first years...cheap as chips....and soooooo much fun !
then progress onto a newer cbr 6....
and before you lot start ...i,m a honda man 'through n through

gud luk with ya trainning an test ...'

I agree mate but I was thinking of something a bit lighter, the Bandit is a great bike but its heavy.
