way I used to do it was carry a can of fuel in your rucksack / panniers, ride till you run out of fuel on main tank, switch to reserve and count the mikes till it coughs n dies again! - easiest way to find out - ( hence reason for carrying spare bomb ..... err ...can of fuel). Riding carrying a can of fuel on a bike is not really sensible or health n safety wise , but hey, if your gonna go, go down in flames a la Pierre, The Famous French Fighter Pilot

hmmmm I think I've got it ..... carry a spare can of juice, then the voices in me head tell me to watch the light in the sky over France and if I meet Pierre I've done something wrong.

hmmm

Yeh ... either that or use the force!!

I got digital block counter - when the last block is on you got 1 litres - when it flashes you'd better find a station quick!

Honda CBR 600RR and proud!!

Read The F-------- Manual.

Other than that, find out the hard way. Or do it deliberately and carry 1/2 a gallon of petrol.
My wife and I's bikes.
BMW K75S and sidecar 150 miles to a fuel stop.
Honda CX500 Custom and sidecar 90miles until reserve
Honda NightHawk 650 , and Yamaha Radian 600, 120 miles until reserve.

All our bikes seem not to vary much in MPG on long runs.
The BMW does 48MPG
The CX500, 45mpg
The Radian and Nighthawk both do 60mpg.
I check tyre pressures before every use of the bikes, (It is critical on the sidecar outfits.)
