Re: First bike on a budget - ZZR 600 V ??? Hi My mate owned a zzr 600 1990 model. He had the bike LESS THAN 3 months and 2nd gear screwed up and he told me the cylinder head had gone. He did drive it hard though, but don't drive your zzr too hard because it probably won't take it, as with most bikes. Rob

| Re: First bike on a budget - ZZR 600 V ??? Thanks for post Rob I have read about the 'posotive neutral finder' problem that can cause the problem of it jumping out of 2nd gear. I found a good page on the problem here in case anyone else is interested in the problem. ZZR 600 GEARBOX REBUILD - WWW.ZZR600.CO.UK I would be interested to know when your mate brought his 1990 machine and if you would suggest another 600 all rounder for around the 1500 pound mark? | Re: First bike on a budget - ZZR 600 V ??? Hiya mate and welcome to the forum... Mr Lady Clara had a ZZR 600 for his second bike a few years ago. It was 1996model and we paid £2800 for it (but that was 5 years ago). Overall he says it was a nice bike to ride but the brakes let it down (not particularly good). Apparently that's a weak point on them. Check exhaust downpipes as they rot. It never let us down though and there was never a problem with gears etc. I thought it was really comfortable on the back. Overall Mr LC says have you considered the Yam Fazer 600? He bought that after the ZZR and says it's given him a lot more confidence than the ZZR because of the seating position and the way it rides. (However, although I'm not a lot shorter than him,my legs are, and I find the fazer just a touch to tall for me). His is an S-reg 1998 model and we paid £1400 for it. It's absolutely immaculate for that price too. If you're open to unfaired models how about a 600 hornet? I ride one for my first big bike and love it. Easy to ride and a real confidence giver (but it does give you a bit of neckache on long motorways as do all unfaired bikes). Depends where you're going to be riding I suppose. We paid £1000 for my 1999 model but it has had a few knocks and bumps. Hope this helps. |

Re: First bike on a budget - ZZR 600 V ??? Don't do it - buy a CBF600 instead - reliable, practical and cheap enough now - i'm told..... mind you it was a honda salesman!!

Re: First bike on a budget - ZZR 600 V ??? Thanks for your comments Lady C and please thank Mr LC too. My leg length may be a deciding factor but I will go and have a sit on a Fazer next week to size one up. Richard

I used to have a cbf600. Not very fast ( especially compared to a zzr600 ) would've been a very comfy bike, but the vibrations at 80-90 were terrible, mega numb fingers. She had to go.
