DVLA Mistake

Hello,
can anyone help. Last night I was tugged by the police whilst driving a van. They told me the reason for the tug was that the van, a company van, had been implicated in a crime last year. I have had a full bike licence for four years. As soon as I passed the test I sent of my full car licence and the test certificate to recieve my new euro style licence. But the police informed me last night that I didn't have a licence to drive a van or car and only a licence for a bike. The DVLA has made a mistake and I haven't slept and I cannot go to work as I have no licence. There is now a possibility that I will also be done for no insurance for the van I was driving which will be a further 6 to 8 penalty points on top of the 3 penalty points for being an unlicenced driver. Has this happened to any one? Am I right to be expecting a real battle from the DVLA?

Re: DVLA Mistake

hello and welcome to the forum, your not going to like this, but unless you can prove that you had a car liscence then the dvla dont usually admit to their mistakes.thats why i alway keep a copy of everything i send to them as i wouldnt want to have to resit tests...good luck

Re: DVLA Mistake

Hello and welcome to the forums, theres a few instances of the DVLA cocking it up. They removed my bike license and I had to re-sit my bike test because I couldn't prove I had taken it

I now do what Sam says, make a copy of everything

Re: DVLA Mistake

HI Castacoldeye, yes there are a few instances where the DVLA have screwed up - you can google DVLA+licence+errors to get a few stories. However the DVLA are very very reluctant to admit to their mistakes. Unfortunately it's up to you to prove them wrong. I would get legal advice from a law firm that deal in road matters.

Hope it works out

Re: DVLA Mistake

Cast, did some checking with a mate of mine today and he said it might be worth checking at the test centre where you did ya test, they might still have details on record!
Worth a shot, good luck mate.
