Belated Hello

Hey all,

A belated hello to the forums as my first post was to the garage section (Thanks for the replies).
Finally got round to learning to ride a bike late last year and did a semi intensive course and then my test in which i F**ked up the U turn. Unfortunatly then my only other form of transport (the car) decided to wipe out my spare money. So picked up a cheap cg125 last month to give myself some road time till i retake my test. and practice my u-turns.

U-turns, what a load of bo&*%$ks. When I took my test, didn't think I was gonna miss the kerb, but carried on anyway 'cos I didn't want to fail. Missed it by about an inch! Talk about taking a gamble!
They're the single most useless way to assess riding on the entire test. Mind, I took my test on a 125 and they're a lot harder to control on the throttle than the bigger bikes, and yet on the 500s on test they do the u-turn on wider roads!

Not on my test BP...the road was like a pavement width wise!! And I could do them all day on my 125 but the 400 seemed so big and heavy in comparison. I lost the plot many a time. The u-turn is a tool of Satan! Like Grotbag says mate, there's loads of advice on them on the other threads. Good luck and welcome.

Re: Belated Hello

i found the bigger bikes easier, better balanced. Just the U-turn itself, pointless.

Re: Belated Hello

I disagree with 'pointless' because it's about controlling the bike at slow speed and not in a straight line, it's the same as the 3 point turn on a car test

Re: Belated Hello

Yep GB's got a point. There'll always be those times that skillful slow manouvering with good clutch/throttle control is essential. And much as I detested it, the-turn helped me get it.

Re: Belated Hello

I know what you're saying. But there's never an instance where it's dangerous to put your foot down whilst doing a u-turn. If anything, putting your foot down if you're not 100% sure you'll make the turn could save an injury/accident. Basic control at slow speeds is observed throughout the test, every time you set of from a standing start, or turn at a junction. I passed without faults, but to think if I'd put a foot down I'd have failed doesn't seem fair.
