Hello from Oxfordshire

Hello from another (soon-to-be) returning biker in Oxfordshire.

I rode 125s for about 5 years between the ages of 18-25 and then gave them up completely, but now fuel prices and a short commute have got me coming back.

Planning to do CBT in the next week or so, and then pick up a cheapo 125 again just for my 9-mile trip.

I'm probably more excited about this prospect than I really should be!

Regards

Neil

Re: Hello from Oxfordshire

Hi, Shamblatron, thanks for the welcome.

Regarding the full test - that's a definite 'probably'! <grin>

The inital plan is just to get back into the swing of things, probably using one of those dirt-cheap Chinese knockoffs as a disposable bike.

If I enjoy it as much as I'm expecting to, then I'll do a full test and look for a nice little 400 - but that's a little while off yet!

Re: Hello from Oxfordshire

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum - i'd consider getting a later year Honda 125 (cbr?). It'll probably be the same price as a new Chinese model - but more reliable and fun.

There are quite a few stories about reliability and build quality on these models.

Honda CBR 600RR and proud!!

Re: Hello from Oxfordshire

Thanks for the welcome, everybody!

I'm starting to see a 'trend' on the opinions of the Chinese bikes - I've heard mixed reviews, to be honest.

I would say that I've been looking at ones from dealers rather than off t'Web - are they *that* bad even dealer-prepped and with a warranty?

What worries me is that while I know 'you get what you pay for', it's gonna cost me a couple of hundred more for either a 2003 Honda XL Varadero or a 2004 CBR125, when I was looking for something essentially disposable.

Does anyone have any other recommendations or suggestions - or are these both good, reliable alternatives?

Cheers for the advice

Neil

Hi Neil, sorry I missed this post but welcome to the biker forum anyhow. Treat those chinky bikes as though your likely to catch aids off em mate.
