The XB12r is roughly comparable with a modern 600cc sports bike in performance terms, but having a 1200cc low revving very torquey engine, the Buell has the edge on accelleration up to about 120 mph but then loses out to the more powerful 600s above that. Contrary to a lot of road tests I've read, my Buell has a very slick shifting gearbox and the clutch is light light enough for me to need just two fingers to operate the clutch during rapid gear changing. The low revving engine, which red lines at 6,600 rpm provides a very relaxed riding experience compared with modern 600 sports bikes and the engine has a pleasantly deep growling exhaust note. Handling wise, its a match for anything else on the road and with its very short wheelbase it turns very quickly. It's very compact and light, weighing 7 stones less than my old Triumph. | |
