I'm waiting to see what a 500 is like on the DAS before getting a bike of my own. I am curious though as to why most people seem to talk about getting a 500+ bike as their first bike - why not a 250?

Congratulations on your CBT, you beet me by a year age wise! and good luck with your DAS in September

P.S. It's best to start a thread of your own if you want answers to specific questions.

Re: Welcome to Catcher!

Many thanks for the welcome Grotbag. I realise I should have introduced myself in the New Members section. Anyway, I live in the NW with two grown up daughters. I've always had a bit of an interest in bikes but never done anything about it. I keep thinking that at 52 I'm having a bit of a mid-life crisis xcept I sometimes feel I'm past mid-life!!!
One of the things that struck me on the CBT is how much you need to be a better 'driver' on a bike - spotting potential hazards well ahead etc. I'm now much more aware of things in the car and it made me think of taking the bike test partly as a challenge.
I'm aware of the potential dangers, especially for someone starting biking at my stage of life, so plan to take things carefully and get as much advice as poss (one of the reasons for joining the forum)

Regards
Catcher
