| n00b Biker with a..... sort of bike thing Hey Guys and Gals After discussions with my partner it was decided (for me) that I should stop driving my 7 seater car around for my business and (given that there's only ever me) get a smart / ka / cooler box type car to save on fuel. I offered to put skateboard wheels on my tub of Flora, cut a hole in the front and to stand in it whilst saying broom broom if she tattoos Ka on my ass... but thats the closest I get to a smart / ka.. 2 weeks later she drops a Lifan City LF125-9 into my cup of coffee on the coffee table and says, "You can build that up and ride it can't you love...? I got it off ebay for you..." "125? I need a CBT at least love." I say in dismay... its not that I have anything against motorbikes, they're sort of a family tradition on my Fathers side.... said father hasn't been seen in 20 years but hey, I dubiously pick up the impressive build instructions, "Remove from frame, attach wheel, tighten bolts and fall off... I think I can manage that" A CBT later and I've got a 125cc (allegedly) brand new jap-import-replica-model stalling between my athletic thighs. (two days later, when our lass gets a bee in her bonnet - she goes for the full hive... I've considered the fact that maybe she wants me to kill myself on the bike given that she won't ride even the 50cc malaguti I bought for her cos she's scared of dying - a quick cancellation of life insurance will tell me one way or another, docs are in the post! muahaha) Interestingly enough it continued stalling until I called the suppliers and they talked me through setting up the carb... Such is my n00bness. So here I am, nowadays mostly cold, mostly wet, mostly travelling pretty slowly (no more than 15mph for the first 50 miles according to the internetbikeshop.com... what?? I figured If I ran it with the clutch in and my staffy pulling I can at least get somewhere faster) Anyway its 550 miles later and I love riding - the bike however has had a few traumatic experiences already... The front brake caliper worked its way loose (I checked it before I left I swear) 42 miles from home at 11pm jamming the front wheel and showing me that the bike can balance on its front wheel for a little while at least - it could have been a lot worse! Somehow I managed to land the back wheel, stop, signal my intention to get off the bike and swear profusely - AND put the caliper back on with the minimal of tools in under 20 hours... Last night it was attacked by one of them huge drooling dogs from Turner and Hooch whilst I sat in traffic entering a local town... thankfully it only ate a bit of a pannier... it seems that particular dog has no taste for human leg, exhaust pipes or tyres... I'm so grateful for my crash helmet though - it hid my expression as 3 million pounds of dog slammed into me... Though I'm sure I looked calm, collected and happy. Now I never had that kinda fun in my Citroen! Aaaanyway I'd love riding a bit more with a bike I trust, someone who knows bikes and can help me figure out problems, and anything but a cheap japanese import between my thighs! Wait there may be circumstances where...... NO! Smut alert! lol So here I am.. yes.. Looking for a community of bikers, almost bikers, ex bikers, bike-aholics and maybe the odd Ka owner (sorry) to help me carve my little way into the bike riding society of england... without killing myself and giving my sponsor my life insurance... The name's Curt by the way ![]() |

| Serenity I was depressed last night so I called Lifeline. Got through to a call center in Pakistan. I told them I was suicidal, and they got all excited and asked: 'Can you drive a truck?' | |
