| Hello from Sth Glos Hi, my name's Alan and I've just come back to biking after an absence of some 22 years. I had a couple of small Hondas in the 70's (Cd 175 & CB250) but never managed to take my test, in those days you could ride up to 250 on an L plate. For my birthday last year my missus gave me a voucher towards a course with the excellent Martin Lambert of 1 to 1 Motorcycle Training in Gloucester. It took me three attempts to pass my test however (embarassed shuffling of feet) and I now have a bike share with a friend who has a Suzuki GSX750F. Not my first choice because I prefer the more upright riding position, but hey it's an excellent bike and got me from Bath to North Norfolk in the summer in speed and relative comfort. One thing i've noticed, apart from the huge increase in quality of helmets and clothing, is the baffling aspect of etiquette on the road with fellow bikers i.e. who waves to who? In the 70's in did several rides up to the Lake District and general commuting and everybody acknowledged each other, now it seems to be more discriminatory. So my question is-what's the form? I just nod to everyone, and if they don't nod back it's their problem. Well, maybe I don't acknowledge mopeds, but then I never did..... |
