Hi all! I've never been on a bike, but all that is about to change! The elderly couple I work for have bought themselves a bike and sidecar setup, and got rid of their car, and now while working with them I am expected to ride pillion on the bike, or in the sidecar. They have provided me a ton of clothing, which they have told me I need to wear when riding, this being 3 heavy knitted jumpers and cardigans, 2 pairs of thick jogging bottoms, an all-in-one fleece undersuit, a "Weiss Integra 2" all-in-one waterproof suit, heavy boots, thick gloves and helmet. Is this amount of clothing normal, or excessive? I'm told I will be wearing it all even in summer, and whether I'm on the pillion or in the sidecar. Looking forward to the biking experience, but will it be uncomfortable with all that gear on? ![]() Thanks, new pillyrider

Re: Hello all! No, that amount of clothing is not excessive - if you live in the arctic circle You'll soon find out how many layers you need after you've been out on the bike a couple of times.Anyway good luck with Wallace and Grommit and welcome to the forum ![]()

Re: Hello all! Kiddha Pilly, that does sound very very excessive. A couple of normal layers and gloves and strong boots should do the trick. If your gonna be on the back make sure your clothing is armoured.

Re: Hello all! Hi Pilly and welcome. As someone who also plays ballast on bikes, in this weather you will sometimes wonder if you have enough on!!!!!!, but during the summer a good armoured jacket, leather trousers or thick waterproof over trousers is usually sufficient, as well as good gloves and bike boots.

Re: Hello all! at the end of the day only you will know wether you ahve enough on or not, personally a couple of warm layers and armour over the top is what id go for, as you are pillion get massive huge warm gloves as you dont need to have any feel at all and def proper boots with big thick socks!

Re: Hello all! PS, on the back of the bike, dont wear boots with high heels, they tend to touch the exhaust and melt leaving big black marks which causes the bike owner to bitch and moan like a woman having PMT ![]()
