| First camping trip Just got back from my first camping trip on the bike. This is really why I wanted to get back into biking so was really looking forward to it. My lad, Alex, proved to be an excellent pillion and loved the trip despite the weather. Got everything we needed into a tank bag and small rucksack on the back, with tent strapped on. Weather was a bit miserable when we left Sunderland, but we lost the rain as we entered Cumbria. Found a campsite at Thirlspot, with a pub that does good food right next to it. Had a wander around Keswick and the Lake before setting off down Borrowdale for Honister Pass. ![]() Good one of me with my eyes shut ![]() ![]() This was my first Lakeland pass on the bike. The steepest part is at the bottom as you leave Seatoller. Very steep also as you start the descent to Gatesgarth, but an ice cream stop to look forward to. From there we went along to Buttermere and past Crummock Water before turning right to take the Whinlatter pass back toward Keswick. Great little ride, with lots of fantastic scenery and idyllic places to stop and enjoy the view. The campsite turned into a mud bath overnight with non-stop rain. Pitching the tent right up the field away from the track was not the best idea . Anyway got to the road in one piece and came back over Hartside.![]() ![]() The cafe was very busy, but the run down Weardale was a real pleasure. Sun shining and relatively clear roads. ![]() Hope you like the pics. |

| Re: First camping trip Looks great Dave; We were visiting relatives staying on a site at Keswick yesterday and it was like a bog in many of the tent areas. They's been advising people not to come because of the conditions. Quite a few biker there though. Hope its a bit drier next week for us! ![]() |
