Stranraer to Birmingham

I have done this route before in a bus and driving many years ago. Any tolls on English motorways these days or not. Any places of interest on the way down? Whats the speedcamera situation like on roads motorways?

Is there a better road biker wise for someone in no rush rather than the motorways?

Pain is great. It lets me know I am alive.

For the english bits the A6 , then the A57 hitting Snake Pass en route is a must ! You could even get to take in Hartside cafe on the way

Re: Stranraer to Birmingham

Cheers Mike thats the kind of thing I am looking for. I will be traveling end of November tho will have to see what the weather is like. Thinking of a biking trip to the Bike show. Will do my homework on the routes and see closer to the time. Anyone any ideas on the roads in the lake district on the way? Worth branching over that way or not?

Just checking the A6 is the lake district right?

The A6 starts at Carlisle and goes through Kendal, it takes in a lot of popular biking destinations along the way, with loads of meeting places just off the main route. If you're in Lancashire you could take in Devils Bridge and Glasson Dock and drop down through the peak district heading to Matlock, Derby etc. If you've never been to Matlock, it's heaving on any Sunday although I've never been in November when it's a bit chillier.

Look out for speed cameras around Preston, lots of 50 limits. I seem to remember quite a few last time I was down that way.
