| Cadwell Park Race Report - Ben McConnachie Hi everyone, Unfortunately another very difficult weekend aboard the Replicast Racing Honda . This time, with persistant hard work from the sedelous Dave Cherry, thankfully there were no mechanical break downs to worry about ! This time the difficulties came from the rider With a decent first day at, in my opinion, one of the best circuits in the country, and with a superb machine, I managed to ease the Replicast Honda to a creditable 14th position on the first day ! Dissapointingly a Reed Petal blew in the engine, causing the bike to stop and not allow me to continue in the second practice session . Nonetheless, the team fixed the problem and we were all looking forward to qualifying ! Saturday .. And what a day it was ! Up bright and early for 9 o'clock for the first Qualifying session, and damp , miserable conditions met all the riders on track! Adrenalin pumping, bike weaving around beneath me over the crest of the mountain and through the devilish woodland section I found myself 7th in the session ! However, with the high standard of 125 riders there can be no mistakes to secure a good result and unfortunately I made a slight one going into the hairpin . On the last lap I ran the brakes a little to deep into the tight, tricky penultimate corner and before I knew it the bike had slipped away from me ! Never mind.. Still ended up in the top 15 but slid down 6 places in one lap ! As the sun shone through the clouds the crowds draped the hillsides and it was time for the second Qualifying session . Eager to score a good finish in the all important final qualifying session, I set out quickly to hammer the times down ! Bottom of the mountain, front end trying to give way and the sound of the powerful two stroke engine beating a way to gain momentum for the steep mountain crest I muscled the bike round the first part of the Mountian . A sharp flick right and a hand full of gas saw me fly up the top of the mountain ......... Literally ! Haha .. Like a rodeo bull I was flung off the side of the bike and somehow found the strength to hold onto the bars ! Suddenly realising that you can't run at 60 mph, I ended up skiing along the top of the mountain all the way to hall bends where I manged to ' gracefully ' park my bike up on the safety barrier ! ( Once I find some pics, I'll post them on ! ) Amazing .. Now the adrenalin really was pumping ! After a few moments of disbelief and celebrations to the hundreds of amazed crowds on the banks beside me, I took the bike back to pit lane where we taped it up and got back on track !!!! A real racer eh ! ![]() Despite this ' little ' hick - up, I managed to set a time quick enough for 12th place on ideal times, but because of another small crash at the hairpin on the last lap ( again ) I slipped back to 17th on the gird ! 3 crashes in one day ! Sorry Replicast ![]() Race day .. the whole build up of the weekend ! And with a special visit from forum members I was extremely eager to impress.. After making a fairly good start, I sped into the first corner around 15th .. From then on I picked off a couple on the first lap to find myself higher up the field half way round the first lap ! Then disaster struck .. again ! Over exubrance from the rider infront of me saw him lowside at the lightening fast, ' Gooseneck ' ! However, unable to avoid him , I ended up on the grass at 70 mph and sliding down the road too .. Ahh well .. that's racing ! Things like that make the good times all the more enjoyable ! A special thanks to Replicast Racing, Jason Scott for providing expert, professional photography, and the forum members who came to support me .. Thanks again guys, Ben # 49.. |
