| Holiday Trip (2) My brother has a BMW R1200RT, I have a Yamaha FJR 1300A.
We sailed from Newcastle to Amsterdam and headed down through Belgium and France, via the Millau bridge to Barcelona and across Spain to Portugal.
We had booked a hotel in Santarem, about 70 miles north of Estoril and it turned out to be ideal (once we realised that Portugal is on the same time as UK, unlike the rest of Europe !).
The circuit is different to most, in that you can't get access around the track, only to the grandstand you've got a ticket for. However, practice and the racing was well worth watching, and on the Monday morning we set off heading for Zeebrugge.
Both bikes were great, doing 200 miles on a tank cruising at 90mph and being (almost) comfortable enough for the 600+ miles we were doing in a day.
We managed to shave a day off the return trip and got home on the Thursday. Bike all cleaned and polished and looking ready for another 3500 mile trip !
Plans are being formulated for next year - maybe Brno then down to the Alps, maybe Catalunya, or maybe something completely different. There's so much to see and do over in Europe, with so many quiet, interesting roads that I can't wait !
I have a few pictures from this trip too, so I'll try posting them when I can find the flash drive. | Article Tools | | | | | |
